KWOBRUP (YELLANUP)SCHOOL UPDATED

in 1912 a letter was sent from Donald Sclater asking for an application for a school. The railway opened in 1912. A year later there were letters regarding a portable school and possible site. North of the Railway Line and near the west side of the Kwobrup Reserve area. Children listed at that time were: Painter 3, Biltoff 2 and Philp 2.

In 1913 a lot had changed. Hinkleys gone to Gnowangerup, Reeves have no children, McQuillen gone to Albany, Smths,Mills, Francis and Wegg left the district. Philp, Biltoff and Archer too far away

In 1914 it was decided to use the local hall. Progress Association Hall was weatherboard with iron roof and lean-too. It was purchased by the hobart family for 40 pounds and used as their family home.

Kwobrup School opened on 14th July 1914 and closed on 20th April 1923.

Mr. William Pilgrim re-entered the system as Head Teacher on Supply on 14th July at 2 pounds 10 shillings. Opened the school on 14th July, had to clean the loo!!

Letter from Mr. Philp noted that there was only one outhouse.
Effie Montgomery Head Teacher in February. Wage of 110 pounds. Up to 120 pounds in 1917. Married Ernest Nunan - a very kind and devoted teacher. Stayed with the Asplins.

Used Methodist Church Hall for School. Trustees for Church: F. Smith, Bolto, Hobart, Black and G. E. Jones asked for payment for using the church hall.

Rosema Woodman transferred from Kulin. Began in February. Was very keen on poetry. Her son Lindsay became a Bank Manager in Katanning.

12th July Clara Holm atmitted. Letter from W.R. Bolto, Secretary of Kwobrup Hall re opening and shutting of school. Lack of teacher accommodation.
29th September school opened (re-opened?) by Mary Ashe.
Pearl Thomas was transferred to Merriden in October.

Mary Ashe was transferred from No.7 Pumping Station on 22nd September 1922.
Head Teacher in 1923 with wage of 222 pounds. Stayed with the Smiths. Trandferred to Oaklands in 1923.
Closed on 20th April due to low attenance. 12 children left with worker families.
Miss Douglas played the bagpipes, very musical' Stayed with the Alex Andersons (now Webses). Mrs. Anderson used to help the teachers prepare their lessons - a clever and musical person herself.
